We have a limited number of spaces for a small workshop with Kathryn, for which you will submit a sample of your work (first 5 pages of your work) in advance. Kathryn will run the 3-hour workshop, including time one to one with each delegate, and tailored feedback on your work.

The workshop will focus on the first five pages of a novel, considering 5 key elements that an agent or editor will be looking for in those 5 pages.

  • Character

  • Point of View and Voice

  • Description

  • Pace

  • Tension and conflict

Participants’ work should be submitted to the Festival 4 weeks before the date of the course so that Kathryn is able to complete her pre-work. As well as the exercises we go through on the day, Kathryn will mark up each author's work so that you have feedback to take away with you. The workshop will be very interactive with mini-exercises that you may complete individually and share with the group if you feel confident.
